Kingdom Hall Renovation
by geevee inhi all, quick question related to renovating k halls.. my in-laws live in another city and the two congs there are in a ten week process of completely renovating the hall.
the plaster board has been taken off, all the toilets and air cons even the roofing iron and insulation are being pulled out and dumped to be totally replaced.
it seems like overkill to say the least.

sounds like the building is being tarted up a bit to fetch a better price..or maybe it didnt meet some local building regulation that could deter a buyer.

when i was finally branded an apostate--and my wife filed for divorce--for my adultery --in 1981---i went to live in sin with "the other woman": she had been d/f because of our affaire.
Her plan was to get reinstated--preferably with me getting back "in the truth" as well. fat chance of that. after a few months living with her--i moved out and rented a place of my own.
( actually--that was the first time in my life i started to live totally on my own....i had lived at home with my jw parents till i got married--aged 20...and a typical jw virgin couple.)
it was a whole new experience for me--living alone--no friends--and no job either.
a while later i got a job, and it was suggested i try an advert in the " lonely hearts " page in the local newspaper. ( no internet dating sites then! ) i was inundated with replies. what then started was a whole year of unbridled debauchery.

Remember when we lodged in private homes at conventions?
by FatFreek 2005 ini bring this up now because i haven't seen any postings about that practice because i got out in 1977. when did wt quit soliciting private homes for accomodations?
or have they stopped?.
i hated it, but it was the only way we could afford to go.

in the UK--1959 i would think. Twickenham. the first big assembly i went to with mom. dad didnt go--i was 11 years old.. mom and i stayed in a large old house--the small room i slept in was full of old blankets covered in cat hairs. i was asthmatic. perfect.
i have no recollections of the assembly. the last thing i was interested in was sitting listening to someone banging on about religion.
what most certainly did interest me--was being on Wimbledon raiway station when a big express steam train came hurtling through. i managed to persuade mom to let me stay at the railway station each evening while she went to get her god fix. i was there each evening till it got dark... train spotting. my idea of heaven.
can you imagine an 11 year old kid alone all evening on a station platform these days ?

"Are natural disasters a sign of the times?" -- Yes, says WT
by FatFreek 2005 inyes, bible prophecies suggest that there would be disasters during “the conclusion of the system of things,” or “the last days.” (matthew 24:3; 2 timothy 3:1) for example, concerning our time, jesus said: “there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another.” (matthew 24:7).
that from their website this morning.. i see how they've morphed (by interpretation) food shortages and earthquakes into virtually all bad happenings today.. i'll bet if the "blue bonnet" (one elder's fractured pronunciation of bubonic during a public talk, using it not once but three times) plague, one of which happened nearly 700 years ago -- was going on today, it would be a sign of the times.
after all, it "caused the death of 60% of the population of europe".. no natural devastation like that seen since..

Let's Talk Horror Movies
by LoveUniHateExams inhorror is easily my favourite genre of movie so i just thought i'd start a thread on it.. horror can be done badly and there are plenty of crap horror movies, no doubt about that.
but horror can also be done very well, too - often on a low budget.. plus, there are quite a lot of subgenres - slasher, supernatural, monster movies, body horror, psychological horror, zombie, vampire, etc.. so, do you like horror?.
what's your favourite subgenre?.

i cant be bothered with horror films. they dont scare me--i just think they are stupid. and i wouldnt call some mentioned on here as horror at all.
jaws for instance. suspense--yes--horror no. watched it loads of times. gets better each time.
